Due to the location of the village at an altitude of 1020 metres, the ski area is snow guaranteed. 90% of the slopes are equipped with snow cannons. The pistes of Hinterthal are part of the Ski Amade Maria Alm ski area with a total of 120 km of pistes.

The skiing area is extensive and other places, such as Mülhbach, Dienten and Maria Alm with the 2000 metre high Aberg, can be reached by skiing via nice ski connections. The village itself has a number of lifts, including a nice beginner's ski slope for children. There is a good local ski school. For the rental of ski equipment you can go to Sport Mayer in the village.
